Australia at La Biennale di Venezia
Australia has been represented at La Biennale di Venezia since 1954 by 39 distinguished contemporary visual artists. This unique opportunity provides Australian artists and curators with high profile international exposure to new audiences, markets and contexts. Australia holds a special position as one of only 29 countries to have a national pavilion within the Giardini della Biennale, and the first 21st Century building. The award winning Australian Pavilion designed by Denton Corker Marshall opened in 2015 and was made possible through a highly successful public-private partnership.
Our supporters and partners make Australia's representation possible
Australia’s representation at La Biennale di Venezia is realised through a long standing co-investment project managed by the Australia Council for the Arts. The generosity and passion of the individuals and organisations who share our commitment to showcasing contemporary Australian visual arts globally ensures the continued success of Australia at La Biennale di Venezia. There are many exciting opportunities to be part of La Biennale di Venezia legacy over one or more events through a range of supporter levels for individuals and families, or as sponsors and partners.
More than 200 like-minded individuals support Australia at Biennale Arte 2019 as donors, our Champions. Champions not only support Australia’s exhibition at Biennale Arte 2019 through their donation, they also travel to Europe to celebrate their collective achievement together. While in Venice, Champions enjoy a specially curated program of activities, experiences and events led by the Chair of the Venice Council.
May Program 2019: Sunday 5 May to Friday 10 May
September Program 2019: Sunday 29 September to Thursday 3 October
For 2019, each Champion is asked to contribute $6,500, which includes a donation of $3,500 (deductible tax receipt) and a registration fee of $3,000 (GST free) for the program in Venice.
The Australia Council will refund the registration fee for the Biennale Arte 2019 Champions contribution up to two months prior to each program: 5 May or 29 September 2019. The Champions’ donation is a gift, freely given, and as such cannot be subject to refund.
