The 2020 Resilience Fund – applications will now close at midday AEST, Monday 1 June 2020.

New registrations received before midday Friday 29 May 2020 will be processed by Sunday 31 May 2020.
New registrations received after midday Friday 29 May 2020 will be processed after midday AEST Monday 1 June.

The 2020 Resilience Fund is designed to provide emergency relief to support the livelihoods, practice and operations of Australian artists, groups and organisations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are directing more than $5M to the Resilience Fund to provide immediate relief to the Australian arts sector.
Applications open: Friday 3 April 2020.
Application closing date extended: midday AEST Monday 1 June.
- Individuals and groups can apply for up to $10,000.
- Organisations can apply for up to $20,000.
Notifications: You will be notified of the outcome and, if successful, you will receive funding within six weeks of submitting your application.

Create grants enable individuals, groups and organisations to continue creating artistic work and/or develop creative responses in this time of disruption.
For existing work, we will support activities at all stages of development including research, creative development and presentation.
For new work, we particularly welcome creative and innovative projects that build community participation, connection and cohesion, particularly for underrepresented diverse communities and those with less access to resources and opportunities.
Proposals should be considerate of COVID-19 gathering restrictions.
Your activity should last no longer than two years from the proposed start date.
Who can apply
Individuals, groups and organisations can apply to this category.
Individuals can apply for themselves or on behalf of a group. You must be a practising artist or arts worker, and an Australian citizen or an Australian permanent resident.
Australian organisations that create artistic work can apply.
We strongly encourage applications from diverse artists and organisations including First Nations peoples, people with disability, people based in regional and remote Australia, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
The Australia Council supports artists and organisations working across all areas of artistic practice, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts, Community Arts and Cultural Development, Dance, Emerging and Experimental Arts, Literature, Multi-arts, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts.
Who cannot apply
You cannot apply for a Create grant if:
- you have already received a Create grant
- you received a grant from the Australia Council in the past and that grant has not been satisfactorily acquitted
- you owe money to the Australia Council
- you currently receive Four Year Funding from the Australia Council
- you currently receive Visual Arts and Craft Strategy funding from the Australia Council
- you are a National Performing Arts Partnership organisation
- you are an organisation based outside Australia.
What you can apply for
We will support a wide range of activities including, but not limited to:
- creation of new work
- practice based research
- creative development
- innovative presentation outcomes
What you cannot apply for
- Projects or activities that do not involve or benefit practising artists, arts workers or the arts sector.
- Projects or activities that have already taken place.
Australia Council staff will review applications against the assessment criteria. We may seek the advice of industry experts to support our deliberations.
In allocating funding, we will moderate decisions to ensure equity for artists and organisations by geography, arts practice, cultural background and ability.
Your application will be assessed against two criteria:
We will consider:
- How is the activity relevant to your own practice?
- How is the activity relevant to your community and collaborators?
We will consider one or more of the following:
- Does the activity develop or extend the applicant’s creative practice?
- Does the activity address diversity of artistic expression?
- Does the activity demonstrate innovation and/or build community connection and cohesion?
- Does the activity engage diverse artists or communities in the creation of work?
The application asks you for:
- A brief description of your artistic practice.
- An outline of the proposed project or activity.
- A list of the artists and/or partner organisations involved in your activity.
- A simple budget that shows how you will spend the funding.
- An outline of the intended outcomes of your project or activity, and the impact this will have on your practice or intended beneficiaries.
- Support material.
We accept applications in a range of accessible formats, for example by video, in Auslan or other languages. If you have any questions about the application form, please contact us.
You can submit two types of support material with your application.
1. Evidence of your practice
Provide recent examples of your artistic work that is relevant to the activity you are seeking funding for. This could include, but is not limited to:
- A link to examples of your work that may include video, audio, images or written material.
- A link to examples of your proposed activity that may include video, audio, images or written material.
- A link to your website.
- Information about your collaborators or partners if relevant.
2. Letters of support
Individuals, groups or organisations can write letters of support for your activity if appropriate. These letters could explain or evidence:
- How the activity will benefit the intended beneficiaries
- If relevant to your proposed activity, how appropriate cultural protocols have been observed and permissions obtained
- Industry support for your practice and your proposed activity.
You can include up to three letters of support, with each letter not exceeding one A4 page. Where possible, please combine this material into a single document or link.
Our preferred way of receiving support material is via URLs (web links). You can submit up to three URLs, which may include your website, or links to video, audio, images, scanned documents and written material.
If you cannot provide URLs, you can attach up to three documents to your application in either PDF or Word formats.
We strongly recommend you link to existing, accessible examples of your work – there is no need to create new content for this application.
We do not accept support material submitted via post.
