2017 Venice Biennale
Tracey Moffatt MY HORIZON
The Australian Pavilion at the Biennale Arte 2017 proudly presented MY HORIZON, a solo exhibition by Tracey Moffatt at the Venice Biennale. Evoking tantalising, open-ended narratives, MY HORIZON comprised two new series of large-scale photographs, Body Remembers and Passage, and two new video works, Vigil and The White Ghosts Sailed In, which use carefully constructed scenarios while drawing upon inspirations as diverse as television news reports, poetry, Surrealist painting, documentary photography, Hollywood cinema and the artist’s personal memories.
Tracey worked alongside internationally renowned Curator, Natalie King. Aside from curating the exhibition, Natalie edited the accompanying publication of the same name, published by Thames & Hudson. This is the first time an artist representing Australia at the Venice Biennale had a globally distributed accompanying publication.
Australia’s commissioner for the 2017 Venice Biennale was business leader and entrepreneur, Naomi Milgrom, AO.
Australia’s representation at the Venice Biennale began in 1954, and since then 38 distinguished contemporary visual artists have exhibited under the Australia banner. Click here to see all the Australian representations at the Venice Biennale.
This was the second exhibition in the award-winning Australian Pavilion in Venice’s Giardini.
