RAW SPACE RESIDENCY PROGRAM BEGINS

Raw Space is hosting Australia’s largest new media and visual arts residency program with 32 participants over the next 12 months.

The Raw Space residency is a group program. Each month four artists, one international and three Australian, come to Brisbane to live and work.

The emphasis is on sharing ideas, experimentation and creating new moving image works away from the day-to-day distractions of life. Moving image art includes video, film, installation, animation, digital media, sound and low-tech works.

The first Australian artists to participate are:

  • Scott Morrison from Canberra
  • Megan Sproats from Wollongong and
  • Leigh Briody an artist from the Sunshine Coast.

As well as the residents living in the space they have a Brisbane-based artist, Laura Krikke coming daily to participate in the studio residency program.

The first 32 participants were chosen by a distinguished panel of curators and artists. This panel included: Alessio Cavallaro, the head curator from the Australian Centre for the Moving Image; Zoe Butt, Asian Pacific Curator from the Queensland Art Gallery; Di Ball, a local Brisbane moving image artist and media personality; and, Robb Kelly, a moving image artist and the Director of Raw Space.
