The Australia Council wishes to acknowledge the passing of music industry icon Michael Gudinski AM and pay tribute to his significant contribution to Australian music.
Michael Gudinski was the co-founder of Mushroom Records in 1972 and worked closely with a number of Australian artists including Jimmy Barnes and Kylie Minogue.
He brought many international acts to Australia including The Police, The Eagles, Billy Joel, The Rolling Stones, Elton John and Frank Sinatra.
Michael Gudinski received multiple industry awards and was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia medal in 2006 for his services to the entertainment industry.
Australia Council Head of Music Kirsty Rivers said:
“Michael Gudinski will be remembered as one of the most significant music industry figures in Australia and internationally. In recent times, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, he continued to advocate tirelessly for the live music industry. The health, energy and the international reputation of the Australian music community is part of his enduring legacy. He was loved by many and respected by all. We extend our sympathies to his friends, family and colleagues.”
