Arts Strategies
The Australia Council delivers a broad program of strategic initiatives and partnerships. These strategies are designed to enhance the profiles of artists, develop markets and audiences, and facilitate collaborations and cultural exchanges, nationally and internationally.
These activities have been highly successful in building opportunities and capacity for more Australian artists and arts organisations to engage both nationally and internationally.
INTERNATIONAL ARTS ACTIVITY
The Australia Council invests in international arts activity to support artistic, market and audience development through our grants and strategic projects. Our international development program recognises the strategic importance of long term engagement with the international arts community as key to the success of the Australian arts sector.
The program includes a range of activities from expert advice and network development, capacity development projects, artist residencies, and international exchange projects, to supporting delegations at international markets and fairs at home and abroad, and securing important presentation opportunities for Australian arts at key platforms, markets and events.
Council’s international development program provides both short and long term benefits to the artists involved by assisting them to fast track and achieve their international ambitions. The activity grows the international profile of Australian arts, and enriches our nation’s arts and cultural life, and contributes to the Council’s strategic goal that Australian arts are without borders.
Read the International Arts Activity report for more information regarding the Australia Council’s international program.
NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The Australia Council supports a number of national partnerships, projects and events as part of its vision to support the national development of the arts. This support strategically enhances the capacity and profile of Australian artists, and seeks to further develop markets and audiences for their work.
LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
The Australia Council Leadership Program responds to the evolving arts ecology, and the need to support our sector’s emerging and established leaders with the skills and capabilities to lead through change. Our new Leadership Program is built on the success and learnings of our previous leadership programs, and incorporates new content and approaches with a focus on fostering innovation and sustainability.
At the heart of the program design is an understanding that our sector is already rich in knowledge and capability, and that artists and arts leaders learn and evolve through sharing stories and experiences. The program is built around these strengths, and aims to activate capacity and enrich the sector through knowledge-sharing and network-building across regions and areas of practice.
The Leadership Program offers a dynamic suite of development opportunities for arts leaders at all career stages. Participants will share experiences, form dynamic connections, develop new skills and build confidence in their own capabilities. They will form networks and relationships, also share the benefits and outcomes of the program across their organisations and the wider arts community.
