The WHY of Arts Futures emerges from a complex web of questions and exploration. It is an evolving space.

It is entangled with, and responds to the broader concerns, challenges and opportunities for arts and culture globally.

Our current focus is on exploring:

REMIX 2019

The Australia Council for the Arts was a supporter of REMIX Sydney 2019, a two-day event of workshops, presentations and performances on 11-12 April.

Dr Wendy Were, Executive Director, Strategic Development and Advocacy presented the closing keynote. An excerpt is available below.

Lissa Twomey, Executive Director, Major Performing Arts and Artistic Development participated in a panel discussion Cultural Organisations Reimagined. A podcast of this session is due to be released soon as part of ABC’s Big Ideas program.

REMIX Summits tackle the big ideas shaping the future of the cultural and creative industries. By bringing together leaders from across industries they facilitate the exchange of ideas and insights, fostering dialogue and collaboration. They take place four times a year in London, New York, Dubai and Sydney with new locations being added all the time.

Designing Futures

Artists, creatives and future thinkers across industries came together to collectively navigate the socially and ethically complex web emerging from globally disruptive technologies.

The Australia Council’s Designing Futures event in June 2018 brought together participants from a variety of industries including arts, science, medicine, business, education, technology and law.

Working in interdisciplinary teams, participants used a design thinking process to explore how change and disruption might be navigated, and what role the arts and artists could play in possible futures.
